Marketing tips for busy business owners

Running a business often feels like spinning a dozen plates at once, I see it first hand with my clients and experience it myself with my own marketing business. And I know marketing can easily slide down the priority list, but without it, you don't attract new and repeat business.

I thought I'd share some tips so marketing doesn’t have to eat up hours of your week.

Know your audience and what makes them tick

If you try to speak to everyone, you’ll connect with no one. Take time to define your ideal customer:

  • What problems do they face?

  • What motivates them to buy?

  • What keeps them up at night?

When you understand their world and interests, you can create content that feels like it was written just for them.

Create clear benefit-led messages

Busy people don’t want jargon, they want results.

Features explain what you do. Instead of saying: We offer 24/7 business support. Use benefits as they explain why it matters. Try: Never worry about being left in the dark –we’ve got a 24/7 number you can call if you need us.

Make sure every piece of marketing answers: What’s in it for my customer?

Stick to a simple content plan

Consistency beats perfection. Instead of posting at random, create a plan for what you’ll post and when. Centralising your ideas in one place helps to organise content themes and maximise on all other marketing you do – events, advertising, promotions.

I've created a content plan template to make this easy. Message me and I’ll send you a copy.

Repurpose content to save time

Don’t reinvent the wheel every week. Take one blog post and slice it into:

  • A handful of social media posts

  • A short video

  • An email newsletter

One idea can fuel multiple channels and save you hours of thinking, writing and creating. An old boss told me; "If you are spending energy on creating great content you should do at least seven things with it!"

Automate where you can

Marketing doesn’t have to mean being 'always on.' Use scheduling tools for:

  • Social posts

  • Email newsletters

  • Follow-up reminders

Automation keeps your marketing running in the background while you focus on running your business.

Track what’s working and drop what’s not

It’s easy to get lost in likes and views, but what really matters is results. Look at simple metrics like:

  • Clicks to your website

  • Sign-ups to your list

  • Uptick in sales or bookings

It's really obvious but it's as simple as: do more of the things that deliver and stop doing the things that don't.

Always give a clear CTA = Call To Action

Never assume people know what to do next. Every email, social post, or ad should guide them:

  • Book a call

  • Sign up for your newsletter

  • Buy now

  • Message you for your template

Marketing doesn’t have to be overwhelming. By knowing your audience, creating benefit-led messages, and following a simple plan, you’ll build momentum without adding hours to your workload.
