Fumbling with felting

While browsing for craft kits recently, I stumbled across one that immediately caught my eye: a felting kit to make The Snowman and Snowdog. I don’t usually plan ahead with crafts, I just go with what sparks my curiosity, and this one was irresistible.

I’ve never tried felting before, but something about stabbing wool with a needle seemed oddly therapeutic – and a little bit mischievous!

If you fancy trying something creative but aren’t sure where to start, I highly recommend giving felting a go. It’s simple to pick up, portable and surprisingly addictive. Plus, there’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of watching a lump of wool slowly turn into a little piece of art.

Following completion of this festive kit, I’ve made a few other festive decorations: a Christmas pudding, Santa and even a more advanced Reindeer with a wire body.

Felting has taught me patience and precision, and I’m discovering how much creativity you can squeeze into tiny pieces of wool. I’ve also learned to embrace the 'wonky' bits, they add character and remind me that crafting is all about the journey, not just the finished product.

Watching these little creations take shape has been surprisingly satisfying and it’s been such a fun way to experiment with a new craft for hannahmadechristmas.

I’m keen to try more shapes, textures and perhaps some felted cards. Felting is such a versatile craft, you can make gifts, decorations or even tiny wearable art. Stay tuned for more of my felting adventures, I have a feeling this is only the beginning...
